What Are The Different Properties & Uses Of Methyl Ethyl Ketone Oxime?

Methyl ethyl ketone Oxime is a strong, commercially valuable industrial solvent for many substances, mainly resinous materials. It has a wide range of uses, including the use of solvent-based adhesives, polyurethane slurry for synthetic leather, paints and coatings, printing inks and magnetic tapes, as well as use as a dewaxing agent during lube oil processing, as a degreaser for metal surfaces and electronic devices, and as a raw material for the production of methyl ethyl ketone oxime.

MEKO is used in a variety of industries. It is used as a solvent and in synthetic rubber, paraffin wax, and other chemical materials.

Uses of Methyl Ethyl Ketone

Coating 

The coating is spread on the surface of the object being covered or painted. It may create a reliable adhesion of a continuous film with a coated material, generally based on resin or oil or emulsion, add or do not add pigment, filler, add the appropriate additives, with organic solvent or water prepared from a viscous mixture.

The coating is part of the organic chemical polymer material, and the coating film produced is part of the polymer compound type. The layer has the characteristics of covering strength, film adhesion, viscosity, fineness, and resistance to contamination, toughness, alkali resistance, and the lowest film-forming temperature.

The covering is made of synthetic rubber, MEKO, filling, and auxiliary material. The coating consists of synthetic resin, MEKO, filling, and supplemental materials, with synthetic resin, accounting for 65 percent, MEKO accounting for 27 percent, filing accounts for 4 percent, and auxiliaries accounting for 4 percent.

Used as an Adhesive 

The adhesive is a kind of substance with strong adhesion properties. Act of attachment of objects by surface adhesion and cohesion. Adhesive, also called glue, mucilage, mortar, or paste, is any non-metallic material added to one or both surfaces of two different materials that attach them and prevent their separation. There is a wide range of adhesive forms used for other applications.

The adhesive consists of alkyd resins, Methyl ethyl ketone Oxime, tackifying resins, fillings, and auxiliaries, with alkyd resins accounting for 54 percent, MEK accounting 22 per cent, tackling resins accounting for 12 percent, filing accounts for 9 percent, and auxiliaries accounting for 3 percent.

Anti-Skinning Agent

Methyl ethyl ketoxime is an important chemical used as an anti-skinning component in paintings and varnishes. It is an isocyanate blocker in polyurethanes that manufacture oxime silanes used as crosslinkers for silicone sealants.

Properties of Methyl Ethyl Ketoxime

High Chemical Production 

Methyl ethyl ketone is a high production volume chemical manufactured at more than 1,000,000 pounds per year.

  • MEKO is a transparent, colourless gasoline liquid.
  • MEKO is very irritating to the skin.

In the unfortunate case of absorption, Methyl ethyl ketone oxime is mildly harmful. Ingesting or breathing high doses can cause adverse, though reversible, effects on the blood (anaemia), and inhalation can irritate the nasal passages. MEKO is mildly irritating to the skin and can be absorbed into the skin and produce adverse effects on the blood and nervous system. Having Methyl ethyl ketone oxime on the skin can induce an allergic reaction in some individuals.

Highly Metabolized

Methyl ethyl ketone is quickly metabolized and removed from the body. MEKO shall not have adverse effects on reproduction or creation. Male rats developed liver tumours when they were regularly exposed to elevated concentrations of MEKO over their lifespan. These cancers formed late in life and did not impair their longevity. MEKO is not genotoxic, leading to a cancer threshold function, i.e., a safe level below which cancer will not occur, a level well above typical exposures.
